Kongu Engineering College was established in the year 1984, approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. The Institution has completed 34 years of dedicated and excellent service in the field of technical education. It offers 14 UG programmes, 19 PG programmes and 16 Research programmes in Engineering, Applied Sciences and Management imparting high quality value-added education in India. The college has got NBA accreditation for UG programmes, Best Engineering College Award and Best Principal Award twice. The institution is ranked high among the Engineering Institutions in India by various surveys conducted by reputed magazines / journals / organizations. In the survey conducted by MHRD in the name NIRF (National Institution Ranking Framework), the Institution has bagged 99th rank among all engineering institutions in India including premier institution like IITs, NITs, etc., The institution has established a Technology Business Incubator (TBI) supported by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India in its campus. TBI@KEC has won the National Award, for the Best TBI in India, presented by President of India on Technology Day in New Delhi on 11th May, 2013.
Department of Automobile Engineering was established in the year 2015. The department consists of many experienced faculty members with different specializations in power train, drive train, chassis deisgn, vehicle dynamics & control and electric vehicles. Department has good infrastructural facilities such as CAD Center, Fuels and Lubricants Testing laboratory, Engine Components Laboratory, Automotive Sensors and Controllers Laboratory, Automotive Embedded Control Laboratory, Automotive Electrical Machines and Drives Laboratory and Vehicle Maintenance and Reconditioning Laboratory. Department has organized various workshops and seminars for the benefit of students and society. Students from the department have participated and bagged prizes in events like SAE BAJA and Gokart . Research areas of the department includes Alternate Fuels, Renewable Energy, Emission Control, Zero Emission Vehicles, Electric Vehicle and Fuel Cell Technology.
